Skyrocketing construction costs have caused a projected shortfall in the Los Angeles Unified School District's new campus construction program to rise from $1.6 billion to at least $2.4 billion in the past six months. The earlier shortfall was based on future project-cost estimates of $500 per square foot, but with rising construction costs, the new shortfall is based on $600 per square foot.
