CBS will make its programming available to social-networking and blogging sites with a new stable of partner announcements. The company's CBS Audience Network will allow users to embed CBS videos via the new online distribution partnerships.
Gannett launched an online weather widget that will allow content from the company's online papers to be distributed across the Web. Increasingly, media and marketers are using widgets that serve content to users across networks of participating sites.
This year's upfront may well match or exceed last year's $9 billion tally, but to columnist Jon Fine, old media's time is almost over. "TV execs would be making a big mistake to exult over decent upfronts in 2007," he writes. "To borrow from Hemingway, the party is ending in two ways: gradually, and suddenly."
