Several new services enable parents to track their children's movements with GPS-enabled cell phones. Disney Mobile phones come equipped with GPS tracking, which is also available from Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless. All of the services allow parents to use the Web to find their children; Verizon also offers an additional service that can send text messages to parents' phones if children leave a preapproved area.
University College London is helping "green" Londoners stay up to date with the city's upcoming environmental events with a free text-messaging service. "This is a significant development because it's the first time that we've been able to deliver practical information about how people can make a difference to the environment directly to them through their mobile phones," Chris Church, Chair of London 21, said.
Century Council, a group of distillers focused on fighting underage drinking and drunken driving, is helping parents and friends remind prom goers to not drink and drive through a text-messaging campaign.
