Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is fighting to stop the building of three major coal-fired projects in Nevada and said he plans to do everything he can to prevent the millions of tons of pollution the plants could generate. Environmentalists praised the decision, but the firms planning the projects say they are necessary due to growth in the Southwest and the closure of older power plants.
