Whether or not you believe Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson's jet lag defense of his statement that sexual orientation is a choice at the recent gay candidate's forum, the New Mexico governor is right on target -- and in line with his top party rivals -- that the U.S. isn't quite ready to accept marriage for same-sex couples, according to columnist Jonathan Capehart. At least, the Democrats are supportive of marital rights in civil union form and are willing to discuss the issue; their Republican rivals, Capehart notes, won't even meet with the LGBT community.
