Even Without Fitting Rooms, Apparel Leads Online

In 2006, online sales of apparel, accessories and footwear totaled $18.3 billion, making it the largest retail e-commerce sales category (excluding travel), according to Forrester Research. In fact, apparel is one of the fastest-growing online retail categories and is expected to grow 21% in 2007 to $22.1 billion. Despite a consumer preference for buying clothes in stores, eMarketer expects this strong trend to buy apparel online to continue because of wider broadband adoption, more women going online, more consumer-friendly policies and better tools for product visualization.
