The Long Island Power Authority confirmed this week that it is dropping plans for a $700 million wind farm off the coast of Jones Beach, N.Y., due to the high cost. The wind energy park was to include 40 turbines in an eight-square-mile area in the Atlantic Ocean, but officials said enthusiasm for the project declined due to rising construction costs and concerns about the altering of the landscape off of Long Island.
