With doubts raised over the quality of American bridges in the wake of the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis, the Maryland Transportation Authority invited the media to take a look at efforts to replace the deck of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge's westbound span. Immense sections of the deck are being fabricated in a Baltimore steel mill and will be placed on tractor-trailers and barged to the bridge for installation.
