Nearly everyone cheats these days, especially high-achieving students and athletes, says Denise Pope, author and Stanford University School of Education adjunct professor, and several studies back her up. "For kids with a very high GPA and very high SAT scores, who have taken a ton of AP classes ... there's no room for any kind of error," she said. "They say they cheat because 'This is my safety net.'"
