The Federal Reserve beige book, released Wednesday, said the effects of last month's credit crunch on the broader economy were "limited." The regional economic survey was concluded before Aug. 27 and found that economic activity had continued to expand. The report is more significant than usual following comments by Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, who said directors would pay particular attention to the report heading into Sept. 18's meeting.
