Google is spearheading a global privacy standard based on the flexible, business-friendly Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Privacy Framework. But Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, said Google's proposal is a thinly veiled effort to answer regulators' concerns about the privacy impact of its $3.1 billion bid to acquire Net ad firm DoubleClick.
