Customers at Maine Hannaford grocery stores purchased more items marked as nutritious in a yearlong test of the Guiding Stars program, which gives products star ratings based on their nutrition value. Sales of leaner cuts of meat, fat-free milk and other more nutritious items increased, while fresh produce sales remained the same.
Kroger is supporting its expanded private-label organics line by devoting its customer magazine to articles and coupons for organic foods. The Private Selection Organics line initially includes 65 products, but Kroger plans to double its offerings by the end of the year.
