General Electric Co. and Bayer AG are two of the four companies that have issued a warning letter to doctors about the possible role of chemicals with gadolinium, which are used in MRI procedures, in increasing the risk of developing nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, especially in patients with kidney failure. The information is present in a black-box warning on the product's packaging that was requested by the FDA in the spring.
