Stop & Shop discontinued film processing services at its 300 Northeast stores Sept. 15 in a move that signaled the rapid disappearance of film drop-off centers in the era of digital cameras. Film sales have dropped by 25% to 30% annually during the past four years, and in 2006, only 204 million rolls of film were sold, 25% of the amount sold in 1999, The New York Times reports.
