Despite Texas' long tradition of love for wide open spaces, demand is rising for high-rise living space in cities such as Austin and Dallas. Other regions that for years didn't have a heavy urban draw, such as Las Vegas and Phoenix, are also experiencing a high-density project building trend, as gas prices, traffic and environmental regulations increase. "There is something unique in the downtown fabric that you couldn't get in the suburbs," says Texas development magnate Ross Perot Jr.
