Bedford, Mass.-based MicroChips is using "microelectromechanical" systems in developing implantable devices for drug delivery and glucose-level monitoring. With the aid of MEMS and caps carved from silicon and glass, the company was able to produce a device it hopes will be able to deliver an osteoporosis drug automatically and also a glucose sensor that could detect hikes in blood-sugar levels.
