Salt Lake City Mayor-elect Ralph Becker, upon taking office in January, plans to take immediate steps to require city contractors to offer domestic-partner benefits and to gain City Council approval for a domestic-partner registry and an expansion of the the city's nondiscrimination ordinance to cover sexual orientation. Also on Becker's agenda is to amend the city's retirement policy to permit workers to list a same-sex partner as a beneficiary.
