A new study shows that the elderly don't get enough sleep, though they need as much rest as younger generations. Seniors wake up more during the night due to such issues as acute and chronic illnesses, sleep disorders, medications, or depression and anxiety. A national coalition of aging, geriatric medicine and sleep organizations is developing guidelines to promote prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sleep problems in older adults.
