The USDA will continue its efforts next year to reduce the threat of E. coli bacteria following an increase in beef contamination cases and recalls linked to consumer illnesses in 2007. The recall of about 21.7 million pounds of meat from Topps Meat Co. has prompted USDA officials to investigate whether beef processors across the U.S. are abiding by the agency's safety guidelines on E. coli contamination.
