Telstra expects its customers to set a one-day texting record on Christmas Day, calling for nearly 30 million messages to be sent Dec. 25, which would be up from 24 million a year ago. The operator also is predicting 250,000 picture messages will be sent on Tuesday.

AirMagnet, a wireless-solutions company, predicts 40% growth in 2008 as Gartner Group estimated that laptop shipments will far exceed those of desktops -- a Wi-Fi friendly trend.
Uruguay's telecom market will grow by 4% annually through 2012, according to a report from Signals Telecom Consulting, which predicts the sector will reach $1.07 billion or more in revenue in 2012. The report also said that mobile-phone revenue was expected to outpace fixed-line sales by the close of this year.
