Qantas Airways and British Airways will pay a combined $15.5 million in fines in Australia for cargo price-fixing charges dating back to 2002. The airlines already have paid fines in the U.S., and an investigation by the EU is ongoing.
Airlines that operate all business-class flights across the Atlantic are stepping in to fill a gap left by MAXJet. Eos and Silverjet continue to operate flights on trans-Atlantic routes. Meanwhile, British Airways said it will release details on its new trans-Atlantic airline next week.
Boeing booked about 1,400 orders for commercial jetliners in 2007, breaking its previous record set in 2006. Boeing is scheduled to release its final order total today. Some speculate that European jetmaker Airbus may have sold more planes than Boeing; it will not release its totals until later this month. On Wednesday, Boeing announced orders from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, Brazil's GOL, Vietnam Airlines, and Vietnam Aircraft Leasing.
