House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman James Oberstar, D-Minn., on Tuesday promised to fight mergers in the airline industry. Oberstar said he will hold hearings on any proposed merger and pressure the DOJ to investigate its antitrust implications. He claims mergers will boost prices and result in less service for consumers. Meanwhile, a Delta Air Lines spokeswoman said the company will make any decision to merge with another carrier based on "on what is in the best long-term interest of all of our stakeholders. That means employees, customers, shareholders and the communities we serve."
