Losing weight was associated with bone loss at the spine and the hip among postmenopausal women, according to a study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Women in the premenopausal group who lost weight had reduced bone density at the hip. Researchers found that weight loss was linked to greater bone density at the spine and stable bone density at the hip among men.
U.S. employers can help increase the use of preventive drugs in patients with diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic diseases by offering lower co-payments in their health insurance benefits, a study funded by GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Pfizer suggests. "These results bolster the idea that health insurance benefits should be designed in ways that produce the most health per dollar spent," a senior study author said.
Iowa should work to achieve health care for all its citizens and should start by providing health insurance to the state's children, a state commission recommended. The report also said each state resident should have a "medical home," where they can develop a relationship with a health care provider to address wellness and disease management.
