American and British researchers found that SSRI antidepressants -- including Prozac, Effexor and Seroxat -- were no better than placebo in treating mild or moderate depression in a majority of patients. A spokesman for GlaxoSmithKline, which manufactures Seroxat, said that the study disregarded the benefits of the medications, while a representative for Eli Lilly and Co., which makes Prozac, stated that significant "scientific and medical experience" has proven the drug is effective.
