A coalition supporting the use of compounded hormones -- "natural" hormonal pills produced by a compounding pharmacy according to a prescription -- for the treatment of menopause has launched an ad campaign that criticizes the FDA for reprimanding pharmacies that endorse such drugs. At issue is an ingredient in the treatments called estriol, a form of estrogen that the FDA says is unapproved but the group says is safe and protects against breast cancer.
