Just 16 months into her job, Transportation Secretary Mary Peters has dealt with a shortage of air traffic controllers, the collapse of the Minneapolis bridge and extensive flight delays. Air Transport Association President and CEO James May said Peters is doing "a credible job," but airlines oppose a DOT plan that would force airlines to pay more to fly out of New York John F. Kennedy and Newark Liberty airports during peak times.
