Florida's Palm Beach County will begin teaching sixth-graders about contraceptives starting in April; a 2005 survey of high-schoolers in Florida suggested many teens are engaging in sex, with some saying they'd had intercourse, often unprotected, before the age of 13. Previously, the county's sex-ed curriculum for sixth-graders offered few details about contraception's role in preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
