Black & Decker Corp. could face headaches from its now-defunct Emhart division as California officials press for restitution in an 11-year-old water pollution case. Emhart is identified as one of the biggest polluters in Rialto, Calif., where the chemical perchlorate has contaminated the drinking water supply. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-San Francisco, is calling on corporations to provide safe drinking water for Rialto residents until the contamination problem can be solved.
