In the last nine months, cable companies have deployed more than 4 million set-top boxes that contain CableCard technology. The FCC has mandated the CableCard deployment for most cable firms in hopes of improving the performance of third-party consumer electronics on cable networks.
Harvey Electronics will begin selling off its inventory at its five remaining stand-alone stores as well as its brand and other intellectual properties. A federal Bankruptcy Court cleared the way for the A/V chain to sell most of its remaining assets -- it will retain three in-store shops -- after the court rejected an additional loan to keep Harvey operating after its Chapter 11 filing in December.
IPod docks that attach to A/V receivers and home-stereo systems have seen a major sales boost since retailers began displaying them near those systems. Initially many stores displayed the docks near iPods or in accessories departments.
