Retailers including SUPERVALU and Kroger are offering new promotions to encourage consumers to spend tax-rebate dollars in their stores. Many companies are even advertising promotions that let consumers stretch the value of their rebates.
H.E. Butt Grocery Co. said consumers can purchase digital-TV converter boxes at participating H-E-B stores starting April 1, using the $40 coupons that will be provided by the government to each U.S. household. H-E-B also plans to launch a Texas-wide "awareness initiative" about the switch to all-digital TV in early 2009.
