H.E. Butt Grocery's Super Bowl ad promotes snacks, produce and beverages under the Primo Picks line, which is made in Texas and is available only at H-E-B stores. The ad, featuring former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, will air in 13 Texas markets between the third and fourth quarters.
H.E. Butt Grocery promoted store-brand coffee Cafe Ole using a Facebook campaign that encouraged users to comment on the company's page, using hashtag #CafeOleMorning, about their favorite flavor, such as Christmas in a Cup, French Roast, Taste of Houston, San Antonio and Texan Pecan. Five participants were chosen randomly to win a one-year supply of Cafe Ole coffee, along with the Keurig Platinum Brewing System and a $100 H-E-B gift card.
Children in elementary and middle school can enter cereal-box designs in a contest by H.E. Butt Grocery. Two grand-prize winners will get $5,000 for their school, and their artwork will appear on H-E-B Toasted Oats and H-E-B Honey Nut Toasted Oats.

Whole Foods Market and H.E. Butt Grocery Co. have joined the digital-pricing bandwagon, replacing their traditional price tags with electronic ones. Whole Foods found digital shelf labels to be environmentally friendly as it cuts the use of paper and plastic tags and has expanded its use throughout its Texas locations. H-E-B also has started using the system in a pilot store in San Antonio.
