High stress levels experienced by children living in poverty may affect brain development, leading to learning disabilities as well as behavior and emotional problems, according to a new report. "If [children] enter kindergarten with such developmental delay because of a lack of [learning] opportunities and the stress in which they've grown up, it's hard to say that they're going to ever be able to catch up," said Margaret Arbuckle, a board member of the nonprofit that released the report.
