With diesel costs up more than three times over 2003 prices, student transportation is eating up larger portions of school budgets, which some fear could cause many to make deep cuts in bus service in the next school year. "If diesel prices continue to go up, we will see more of these changes," said Peter Japikse, Ohio's director of pupil transportation, adding, "Across the state we are seeing field trips going away because districts can't afford the fuel."
