Six activists who in different ways have improved the lives of women around the world were honored Monday by the Vital Voices Global Partnership at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., before a packed crowd that included First Lady Laura Bush and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The honorees included Charm Tong, a 26-year-old woman born in Myanmar who helps refugees who are fleeing rights abuses in that country, and Laura Alonso, an Argentinian who battles political corruption.
