A team of German researchers found that directly injecting live streptococcal bacteria known as S. pyogenes into human pancreatic cancer tumors implanted in mice caused the tumors to shrink and die. The use of live bacterium "has great potential for activating the immune system" and may benefit cancer patients with negative prognosis, one of the scientists said.
