Six major carriers boosted round-trip fares by up to $60 over the weekend, experts said. Carriers have boosted fares 11 times this year to offset the soaring cost of fuel. Rick Seaney, CEO of Farecompare.com, said that the airlines have been careful about increasing fares on routes where they face competition from low-cost carriers, including Southwest and JetBlue.
