Labor Secretary Elaine Chao said Tuesday that although "the H-1B is capped by statute, so there's nothing we can do about that," her department is still trying to streamline the H-2B visa program. Chao told donors at an Arizona fundraiser that "we're taking a look at the H-2A/H-2B process so we can see how best to make it easier for this program to be accessed while ensuring the proper people are still coming in." Chao also insisted "the long-term economic fundamentals of our economy are quite strong," despite a "rough patch" due to the housing market and credit crunch.
