High seepage levels and a recently active fault line have led the Army Corps of Engineers to name the Martis Creek Dam outside Truckee, Calif., one of the six riskiest dams in the nation. With construction work at least six years off, the Corps is keeping the reservoir less than 20% full while requesting $1 million to fast-track a seismic study for the dam. Officials fear a collapse could flood nearby Reno, Nev.
