Big media companies are increasingly using automated content recognition software and digital fingerprinting to locate online copyright violations and issue take-down orders to offending sites. The move to automated rights management could be a game-changer in the battle between big media and the innumerable small sites that trade on pirated content. However, legitimate bloggers are concerned that such efforts could put a chill on the fair use of copyrighted material.
