GenBand has strengthened its product suite with the purchase of NextPoint Networks for an undisclosed sum. The deal gives GenBand access to session border controller technology and fixed-mobile convergence security gateways. "We know that gateways will evolve beyond the role of managing the transition to IP," said Mehmet Balos, GenBand's chief marketing officer. "We are looking ahead to that evolution, to when gateways will be important in protecting and enabling the IP network."
NextPhase Wireless has tapped Aperto Networks to facilitate a WiMAX network that will make its debut in Southern California and then expand to more states, including New Jersey. For its part in the network, Aperto will deliver its PacketMAX offering.
