Six years ago, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease, a new system of allocating donor organs, gave early liver cancer patients priority for transplants. Research now shows that the result is a much higher proportion of transplants being performed in liver cancer patients. "We hope that these results are useful in continuing to optimize the policies that guide liver transplantation for (liver cancer) in the United States," researchers said in an article appearing in Gastroenterology.
