About 30% of diabetics in the U.S. are undiagnosed because most tests require patients to fast, a new study found. A panel of experts recommended the inclusion of a test that measures hemoglobin A1c, which indicates the average blood-sugar levels over the previous few months. HbA1c measurement shows longer-term blood glucose concentration with more precision and does not call for fasting.
