Officials said no passengers were injured when two Northwest Airlines jetliners clipped wings Sunday on the ground at Minneapolis St.-Paul International Airport. Officials said both jetliners experienced some wingtip damage.
Delta Air Lines said it will take up to $103 million in charges during the second quarter. The airline will take a $95 charge from its voluntary employee buyout program and an $8 million charge to close certain airport clubs.
U.S. embassy officials are criticizing plans by the U.K. to levy higher taxes on air travel and say the taxes will not decrease environmental damage caused by airplanes. They are threatening to take legal action against the tax. The U.K. in 2009 will levy higher taxes on airliner flights as part of an effort to meet targets on cutting carbon emissions.
Continental Airlines and ExpressJet have signed a new seven-year agreement. ExpressJet will operate a minimum of 205 aircraft for Continental the first year of the agreement. The new contract takes effect on July 1.
