Aerospace companies oppose the EU's emissions-trading plan because it would drive up costs for airlines. "As it stands right now, the price of fuel is the single greatest expense. And at current levels it's going to put more carriers under than what we've already seen," said Dan Elwell, Aerospace Industries Association vice president for civil aviation. "When the airlines are operating in the red, you don't even need a $50 fare increase to put them under."
