With the H-2B visa program limit being reached earlier each year and demand for workers growing, landscape companies are looking to hold on to their employees by encouraging them to find winter work in another industry. Complications arise because workers can't be in the U.S. for even a day without a valid visa, which means jobs must dovetail perfectly. "The logistics are complicated, but it can be done if someone at a landscape company goes to work for someone with a bona fide winter labor need," said Libby Whitley of H-2B agency MAS.
Strong global demand for its aerospace and defense businesses led Textron to a 22.9% increase in second-quarter profit on net income of $258 million. High demand in those businesses led to another record backlog, said Lewis Campbell, chairman, president and CEO. "Likewise, we had double-digit organic growth at E-Z-GO, where our new golf car has been well received, and Fluid & Power, where our energy-related products are in high demand."
Taylor Equipment, a full-line Kubota dealership in Taylor, Texas, has been recognized as the top Kubota dealer in the U.S. by Kubota Tractor Corporation of America. Family-owned since 1985, Taylor Equipment was chosen from some 1,500 Kubota dealers nationwide.
Kubota Tractor Corporation says it will spend $16 million on a new national distribution center in Jefferson, Ga. The 350,000-square-foot facility will be Kubota's fifth plant in Georgia and should be operational by late this year.
