The European Union should be doing more to stop homophobia and should offer gay and lesbian couples marriage rights that are equal to those of their straight counterparts, according to a report from the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights. Currently, 18 of 27 EU nations offer legal protections to their LGBT residents, the report found. "Equal treatment is a fundamental right that all members of our society should enjoy," said agency director Morten Kjaerum.
