Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Sean Dilweg thinks damage from recent floods will be more than $100 million, but fewer than 1% of the state's residents had flood insurance. In Indiana, where 1% of the residents did have flood coverage, Insurance Commissioner Jim Atterholt said government loans may be available to the uninsured. As one expert said, it should now be clearer to homeowners that even if they don't live in a flood plain, they may need to insure against flooding.
