With an Energy Star rating of 95, the Odyssey Charter School in Palm Bay, Fla., is being hailed as a prototype for sustainable school construction statewide. Odyssey achieved its high rating through careful siting to optimize daylight, thermally efficient building materials and high-tech HVAC and energy-management systems. With the addition of thin-film photovoltaic panels and automatic lighting controls, a sister school planned for Orlando, Fla., is expected to achieve a perfect 100 rating.
