Inspectors from New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs make annual visits to the city's hundreds of gasoline stations to ensure that they are actively complying with the state's weights and measures law. "People always have a right to know they are getting every dollar of gas they pay for. But as it nears $5, it's all the more incumbent on us to keep the pressure on the industry to dispense accurately," said Jonathan Mintz, New York City's consumer affairs commissioner.
