Concerned by the drop in U.S. science and engineering graduates, the Navy and its shipbuilding arm, NAVSEA, are sponsoring summer camps and engineering competitions for junior-high and high-school students from Philadelphia to Atlanta. The American Society for Engineering Education sees the Navy effort as part of a broader move to reverse the downward trend. "There are a lot of people working hard to ensure that U.S. engineers meet the demands of a changing marketplace," said spokesman Mike Gibbons.
