More than 80 Wisconsin high-school and middle-school teachers will teach courses ranging from civil engineering to data electronics after completing a two-week training session at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The training is part of Project Lead the Way, an initiative designed to reverse the slide in engineering degrees at a time when engineers are increasingly in demand. "We've gone from being one of the highest per-capita nations in terms of science and technology graduates to being fairly middle of the road -- and that's not a sustainable position in order for the U.S. to remain innovative," said Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council.
